Piecewise Linear Histograms for Selectivity Estimation
Selectivity estimation of queries is of critical importance to query optimization. In order to get accurate estimations, database management systems must maintain statistics to capture the underlying data distribution. Histograms are extensively used in commercial database systems for this purpose. Most current histogram techniques make the assumption that all values in a single bucket appear w...
متن کاملOn Weighted Distributions and Mean Advantage Over Inferiors Functions
In this note, some fundamental results including relationship between weighted distribution functions and mean advantage over inferiors functions are established. Ordering of reliability and/or distribution functions via mean advantage over inferiors functions and related functions for parent and weighted reliability functions are presented. Some applications and examples are given. Mathematics...
متن کاملComparison of weighted and unweighted histograms
Two modifications of the χ2 test for comparing usual (unweighted) and weighted histograms and two weighted histograms are proposed. Numerical examples illustrate an application of the tests for the histograms with different statistics of events. Proposed tests can be used for the comparison of experimental data histograms against simulated data histograms and two simulated data histograms.
متن کاملSome weighted operator geometric mean inequalities
In this paper, using the extended Holder- -McCarthy inequality, several inequalities involving the α-weighted geometric mean (0<α<1) of two positive operators are established. In particular, it is proved that if A,B,X,Y∈B(H) such that A and B are two positive invertible operators, then for all r ≥1, ‖X^* (A⋕_α B)Y‖^r≤‖〖(X〗^* AX)^r ‖^((1-α)/2) ‖〖(Y〗^* AY)^r ‖^((1-α)/2) ‖〖(X〗^* BX)^r ‖^(α/2) ‖〖(Y...
متن کاملChi-Square Tests for Comparison Weighted Histograms
Weighted histograms in Monte-Carlo simulations are often used for the estimation of probability density functions. They are obtained as a result of random experiment with random events that have weights. In this paper the bin contents of a weighted histogram are considered as a sum of random variables with a random number of terms. Generalizations of the classical chi-square test for comparing ...
